Joshua (Josh) Melton (Trippy J) is an up-and-coming rapper from Conway, South Carolina. At a young age, Josh’s father (Heath Alford) taught him how to beatbox, which later influenced Josh to get involved with the art of music. When Josh was only 11 years old, his father passed away. Following the passing of his father, Josh fell into an emotional hole. Josh was constantly being bullied for the way he acted, the clothes he wore, and not being “normal”. In the summer of Josh’s junior year, he decided to stand up for himself and the many other people that felt as if they didn’t have a voice, but he does this through his own unique style: rap music. Trippy J’s mission is to help at least 1 listener per song, but with his fan base growing everyday, he hopes to impact thousands more than that. Trippy J’s motto is, “Giving a voice to those who can’t be heard”, a motto that perfectly fits his motivation for rapping. Trippy J follows a Witt Lowry/NF style of rapping, but his music has much more meaning than most rappers. The main premise of his songs are to show listeners that you can make it out of hard times, you are not alone in this world, and that there is always a helping hand reaching out to grab you when you are struggling in life.
